Annual Banquet, Auction & 50th Anniversary Celebration
Date: 03/16/2019
Time: 05:00:00 PM
Description:

Join Redwood Region Audubon Society on Saturday, March 16 at 5:00 p.m. for our 50th Anniversary Celebration Banquet and Silent Auction. Dr. Lisa Tell will present a program on the amazing work being carried out by the U.C. Davis Hummingbird Health and Conservation Program. Her talk, “A Little Bird with a Big Story,” will describe the fantastic lives of these minute powerhouses as well as the behind-the-scenes research on their health and well-being.  Dr. Tell will present many delightful and informative images to highlight how they use bird banding as well as ultra-miniature transmitters to follow these speedy birds as they simultaneously feed, pollinate flowers, and provide critical ecosystem services. We all love hummingbirds and this program should greatly enrich our appreciation of them.

The Redwood Region Audubon Society (RRAS) was founded 50 years ago by conservation- minded people with a passion for birds who were concerned about the alignment initially proposed for the Samoa Bridge. The bridge was to be routed right through the large heron rookery on Indian Island in Humboldt Bay. RRAS succeeded in getting the bridge rerouted to its current alignment and this key nesting area was spared. A chapter of the National Audubon Society, RRAS continues to actively promote wildlife conservation in our bioregion. We are a volunteer, non-profit organization with about 600 members.

An easy and fun way to support RRAS is to attend our 50th anniversary banquet. It will be held at the D Street Neighborhood Center, 13th and D Streets in Arcata. Social hour begins at 5:00 p.m., dinner at 6:00 p.m., and the program begins right after dinner. A gourmet menu including meat and veggie options will be catered by Gary Friedrichsen with dessert provided by Ramone’s. Tickets are $35.00. To reserve, send a check made out to RRAS to P.O. Box 1054, Eureka, CA 95502, or email gary@jacobycreek.net with ‘Banquet’ in the subject line, or call 707-496-6581. The last day to guarantee reservations is March 8.

If you have any natural history items you would like to donate to the auction, including books, paintings, collector items, etc., please call 707-826-7031 or email board@rras.org
