Bats and Motus - Tracking Bats (and other avian creatures) Using Radio-telemetry

Presented by Ted Weller,an ecologist with US Forest Service’s Pacific Southwest Research Station in Arcata

This work has important conservation implications as hoary bats are the bat species that is most frequently killed at wind energy facilities and most of the fatalities occur during the period of autumn migration.

Results of this work have triggered a re-evaluation of how biologists think about the seasonal movements of bats and the challenges associated siting wind energy facilities to minimize impacts on bats.

The program is held at Six Rivers Masonic Lodge, 251 Bayside Road, Arcata.

Drinks and goodies will be served at 7:00 p.m. and the program will start at 7:30 PM.

Completely revised and updated, this book presents 26 birding routes throughout the county, with nearly 500 eBird hotspots mentioned.

It provides information on where and when to look for about 120 of Humboldt's less common birds, with numerous maps and photos.

The book is spiral bound for ease of use in the field.

Whether you're looking for a particular species or simply a good place to go birding in Humboldt, this book is for you!

We are happy to mail copies to you, and they are also available in many local locations. Click here for instructions to have one sent, and local locations to purchase a book.
